This West Indies legend defended Shubman Gill, said- KKR should not drop him

IPL 2021: Former West Indies captain and batting great Brian Lara has defended Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opener Shubman Gill, who is struggling with poor form. He has said that Shubman Gill can play a big innings soon. Also, Lara has said that, in the second phase of IPL in UAE, Shubman has been unlucky so far and has not been able to bat according to his ability. The KKR team should keep their faith in him and not drop him from the team in the upcoming matches. Shubman has scored 48, 13, 9 and 7 runs in his four innings in UAE.

Brian Lara said, “Shubman Gill has been unlucky so far. If you look at his batting, he is in form. He is just a match away from playing a big innings. His opening pair with Venkatesh Iyer is very good. Yes, and I believe that these two can do something special together. I don’t think the KKR team would be thinking of dropping Shubman from now on.”

Till now the batting of Punjab Kings has not impressed

On the batting of Punjab Kings, Lara has said that, “Punjab’s batting order looks very strong, but so far it has not lived up to the expectations. At present, the team of Punjab is not playing good cricket. The team of Punjab is mostly its batting. But it depends. The kind of bowling attack he has, he needs to score big in every match. If he doesn’t do that then it becomes very difficult for him to save the match.

Brian Lara praised Punjab spin bowler Ravi Bishnoi and said, “He is bowling brilliantly right now. Also Mohammed Shami has the ability to bowl excellent spells. However, his batting is very important to win the match. If their batsmen perform according to their ability, then Punjab Kings can have good chances of winning in the upcoming matches.
