Maharashtra to swap tigers for Asiatic lions

Mumbai Maharashtra Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said that as a major initiative in the state, the pair of tigers of Mumbai (Mumbai) is being swapped with the pair of Asiatic lions of Junagadh in Gujarat (Gujarat). Will do The decision was taken during Mungantiwar’s visit to the neighboring state and discussions with his Gujarat counterpart Jagdish Vishwakarma on Monday. The lion pair, a male and a female, are currently kept at the Sakkarbagh Zoological Park in Junagadh, while the tiger pair currently resides in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) in Mumbai.

After the meeting, the ministers of both the states have decided to jointly seek the approval of the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) for the project. Preliminary discussions for the project were held by Maharashtra’s Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Sunil Limaye along with Sakarbagh Zoological Park director Abhishek Kumar and others. Similarly, State Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and SGNP Director G. Mallikarjuna also held meetings with the officials of Gujarat. (IANS)
