SOP made for respectable cremation in UP

Lucknow. The Uttar Pradesh government has prepared a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for respectful cremation. Now keeping people dead on the roads and blocking traffic in protest will be a punishable offense.

According to the Home Department, the SOP comes on the order of the High Court on a public interest litigation in this regard. The spokesperson said action would be taken against whoever keeps the dead body in a public place or on the road, as it is an insult to the deceased.

According to the SOP, when the bodies are handed over to the families of the deceased after post-mortem, they will have to give in writing that they will take the body directly to their home and then bury it in the crematorium. They will not be allowed to keep dead bodies at any place as a mark of protest. Any organization participating in such activities will also face action.

In cases where the cremation takes place at night, the family of the deceased will have to give their approval in writing and the entire process will be videographed. This decision comes after the outrage over the cremation of the Hathras victim in the midnight of September 2020. (IANS)
