After assuming the command of Uttar Pradesh in 2017, the names of many cities, railway stations, and other places in the state were changed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. However, this trend continues even today. Significantly, a few months before the UP assembly elections to be held in 2022, the state government has announced to name many roads in the state after well-known personalities.

From Chaudhary Charan Singh to Chandro Tomar: The Yogi government has approved the naming of roads in Baghpat district after Chaudhary Charan Singh, Mahendra Singh Tikait and Dadi Chandro Tomar. The Jats are at the fore in the ongoing farmers’ agitation against the three agricultural laws passed by the central government and the next generation leaders associated with Chaudhary Charan Singh and Mahendra Singh Tikait are leading the protests against the BJP government. In such a situation, it is believed that by naming the roads, BJP wants to emotionally connect the Jat vote bank with itself.

Prayagraj: The road in Prayagraj has also been named after Apna Dal founder Sone Lal Patel. Let us inform that Sone Lal Patel’s daughter Anupriya Patel is a Union Minister in the Modi government, and her party is part of the BJP’s Alliance (NDA). Also in August a road in Prayagraj was named after former BJP MLA Rang Bahadur Patel. Significantly, these two leaders hold a lot of importance in more than 7 percent population of Kurmi community in the state.

During the campaign for the by-election in Bangarmau last year, UP CM Yogi Adityanath had also announced to name the road after the former ruler of Unnao, Maharaja Shaitan Pasi.

Chetan Chauhan-Virendra Singh Sirohi: The Yogi government has also announced to name roads after many late leaders. These include the names of BJP leaders Chetan Chauhan and Virendra Singh Sirohi. Apart from this, UP Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has announced that six roads in the state will be named after former UP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh. Of these, two roads in Aligarh and Bulandshahr have been named.
