CV Anand Bose sworn in as new Governor of West Bengal

Kolkata. CV Ananda Bose was sworn in as the Governor of West Bengal on Wednesday. Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Justice Prakash Srivastava administered him the oath of office at a function held at the Raj Bhavan. During this, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, State Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee and many ministers were present.

However, Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Shubhendu Adhikari did not attend the event. Bose is a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1977 batch of Kerala cadre. He was named as the new Governor of West Bengal on 17 November. He has replaced La Ganesan on this post. Bose also served as the administrator of the National Museum in Kolkata. He retired in 2011.

He is the 22nd Governor of the state. The new governor’s wife, son and other family members were also present on the occasion. Chief Minister Banerjee presented sweets (rasgulla) to Bose after the swearing-in ceremony. Leader of Opposition Adhikari told reporters in the assembly that the Trinamool Congress government had “humiliated” him by allotting him a seat along with two MLAs who had crossed over to the ruling party from the Bharatiya Janata Party after last year’s assembly elections.

He said, “The Trinamool government is working in a vindictive manner. It is still unable to accept the fact that Trinamool supremo lost to me in Nandigram seat. The government did not observe dignity and insulted the office of the Leader of the Opposition. Hence, I did not attend the programme.
