‘Chapter related to Savarkar is over’, says Jairam after remark creates ruckus

Burhanpur. Following the furore over Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on Hindutva ideologue VD Savarkar, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday said the chapter on the issue has ended. Ramesh was addressing a press conference after Gandhi-led ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ entered Madhya Pradesh during its halt at Burhanpur.

Ramesh is the general secretary in charge of the communication, publicity and media department of the Congress. On the question asked about Rahul Gandhi’s comment on Savarkar, he immediately said, “Savarkar’s chapter is over.” However, I would like to reiterate that the day BJP and RSS people stop telling lies about our leaders, we will stop telling the truth about their leaders.”

It may be noted that former Congress President Rahul Gandhi recently courted controversy in Maharashtra during his “Bharat Jodo Yatra” by saying that Savarkar had helped the British rulers and because of “fear” while in jail. He wrote an apology.

Further, Ramesh pointed out that on an average, Rahul Gandhi walked 21 kilometers every day along with the participants of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which passed through six states. “There were also occasions in Maharashtra when Gandhi walked for 24 kilometers in a day during this yatra,” he said.
