Former Windies cricketer Pyrado passes away

Hamilton. Former West Indies cricketer Bruce Pyrado has died at the age of 91. Pirado, who played 13 Test matches for the Windies, was born on 14 April 1931 in British Guiana. He made his domestic debut only at the age of 15 and scored his first century the following season. He made his debut for the West Indies in 1953 against India in Port of Spain. He scored his only international Test century in the first innings of this Test.

He played seven out of 13 Tests at home while the rest were on tours to New Zealand and England. Pyrado played his last Test for West Indies at the age of 26 in Leeds. Pyrado fell in love with that country during the 1956 tour of New Zealand and settled there after some time. The Northern Districts, New Zealand’s domestic cricket team, won their first Plunkett Shield under his captaincy in 1963. Pyrado played at that level before retiring in the summer of 1966–67. (talk)
