Assam government appointed Lovlina Borgohain as Deputy Superintendent of Police: Following its earlier announcement, the Assam government today formally appointed Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Assam. Along with Assam Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma carried 3-star DSP badges on his shoulders. Appointment letters were handed over to a few boxers at a function at the state government’s headquarters, Janata Bhawan.

The Chief Minister said that Borgohain’s Olympic bronze medal in boxing was one of the proudest moments in the sports history of Assam. He said that the state government would give an additional one lakh rupees to Borgohain to continue his training in boxing, apart from the monthly salary.

He said that if he faces any problem in continuing his training in Patiala (Punjab), the Assam government will consider hiring an international level coach for him in Guwahati.

The Chief Minister reiterated his earlier announcement that a road in Guwahati would be named after him and a big sports stadium would be built at Sarupathar, the assembly constituency of Borgohain, at a cost of Rs 25 crore.

After receiving the appointment letter, Borgohain told the media that it would be a memorable day in his life. She said, “I am very happy to get such a respected post. I will try to bring laurels to my state in future. I will try my best to promote the players of Assam and state police in future.”
