World Boxing Championship: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated boxer Akash Kumar, who won a bronze medal at the World Boxing Championship, for his stupendous success and said it would inspire the youth. Kumar won the bronze medal in the 54 kg category. He is the seventh male player to win a medal for India at the World Boxing Championship.

PM Modi congratulated

Prime Minister Modi said in a tweet, “Great performance Akash. Many congratulations on winning the coveted medal in the world boxing competition. This success will motivate youth boxing to do better. Best wishes to you for the future.”

Indian boxer Akash faced defeat against Kazakhstan’s Makhmud Sabirkhan in the 54 kg category. The 21-year-old Aakash lost 0-5 in the competition to end India’s campaign. Currently, Akash Kumar has become only the seventh Indian male boxer to win a medal. He has also claimed prize money of $25,000.

Despite the loss, Akash from Haryana, who hails from Bhiwani, is proud of his stellar performance in his first senior international competition. Akash had defeated former Olympic silver medalist Yoel Finol Rivas of Venezuela in the quarterfinals. Indian boxer Akash lost his mother to a lung infection in September and participated in the national championships unaware of the incident. His father died more than a decade ago after he started boxing. At present, Akash has increased the honor of all Indians by winning a bronze medal.
