    AFSPA extended for 6 months in Arunachal

    The Center has decided to extend the AFSPA Act in 4 districts of Arunachal Pradesh for the next 6 months. The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 has been extended by 6 months from today in areas falling under the jurisdiction of Namsai and Mahadevapur police stations in Namsai district, besides Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts in Arunachal Pradesh, the Home Ministry said.     India stays away from resolution against referendum

    India on Friday abstained from voting on a draft resolution tabled by the US and Albania at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) that condemned Russia’s “illegal referendum” and its occupation of Ukrainian territories. The resolution demanded that Russia immediately withdraw its forces from Ukraine. The 15 countries of the council were to vote on this resolution, but Russia used a veto against it, due to which the resolution could not be passed. 10 countries voted in support of this resolution and four countries did not participate in the vote. While the Democratic Party-led US House of Representatives on Friday passed a short-term spending bill to finance the federal government and provide more economic and military aid to Ukraine by mid-December. The bill was passed in the House of Representatives by a vote of 230 to 201. So at the same time, the Center has decided to extend the AFSPA Act in 4 districts of Arunachal Pradesh for the next 6 months.
