Punjab government strict about gun culture
Chandigarh. The state government has become serious about the ever-increasing violence in Punjab and has taken a strict stand to end the gun culture. It is worth noting that the culture of showing off weapons and its use in songs is very popular in Punjab. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has issued strict instructions regarding this. There will be a ban on the public display of arms in the state and also all the arms licenses issued so far will be thoroughly reviewed within the next three months.
The State Government has decided that a license for a new weapon shall not be granted unless the District Collector is personally satisfied that extraordinary grounds exist for doing so. The government has also taken strict steps to stop the public display of weapons in Punjab. Under this, there will be no public display of weapons. Even on social media, no person will display his licensed weapon.
The government has also decided to conduct surprise checks in different areas in the next few days. Weapons or violence continue to be glorified in Punjabi songs but now strict action will be taken against display of weapons or glorifying violence.
