Paarl ODI will be special for this South African umpire, this great record is about to be made
India vs South Africa Marais Erasmus Umpire: The first ODI between India and South Africa to be held in Paarl on Wednesday will be Marias Erasmus’ 100th ODI as umpire and he will become the third South African umpire to achieve the feat. One of the best umpires in the world, 57-year-old Erasmus will join the club of Rudy Kurtzen and David Orchard as soon as he takes the field at Boland Park.
Kurtzen set a world record by umpiring in 209 ODIs from 1992 to 2010. His record was recently broken by Aleem Dar (211 matches) of Pakistan. Orchard officiated in 107 ODIs between 1994 and 2003.

Erasmus has been officiating internationally since 2007. She has officiated in 70 Tests, 35 T20 Internationals and 18 Women’s T20 Internationals in addition to 99 ODIs so far.

According to Cricket South Africa, Erasmus said, “I am proud that I have been umpiring for so long that I am achieving this feat. It is not easy to survive for long in such tough conditions, as we are under scrutiny all the time, so I am proud to have reached this feat.” Erasmus will become the 18th umpire in the world to officiate in 100 ODIs.
