Lakhs cheated by Patanjali’s fake website, three arrested from Bihar

New Delhi. Three persons have been arrested from Bihar for duping people interested in Ayurvedic treatment by pretending to be a representative of Patanjali Yog Gram in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. The police gave this information on Saturday. He said that 20 fake websites of Patanjali Yog Gram have been identified and their details have been sent to the ‘National Internet Exchange of India’ for blocking (banning).

The accused have been identified as Harendra Kumar (25), Ramesh Patel (31) and Ashish Kumar (22), who are residents of Bihar, police said. According to him, Harendra is the website builder and he had created the fake website to cheat the people. A man named Nitin Sharma had complained to the police that he wanted his son to get Ayurvedic treatment and had found a mobile number on the internet. According to Sharma, when he called this number, a person from there identified himself as Dr Sunil Gupta associated with Patanjali and asked him to pay Rs 10,000 as registration fee.
According to Sharma, he was asked to pay several times and thus Rs 2,40,500 was extorted from him, the senior police officer said. The officer said that during the investigation, the police found that the mobile number which was on the internet was purchased in Kolkata and was operational in Nalanda in Bihar. According to him the money deposited by Sharma was withdrawn from different ATMs in West Bengal.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said that during investigation Harendra was caught and on the basis of information received from him, Patel and Kumar were arrested from Giriyak in Nalanda with the help of Bihar Police. According to the police, during the investigation, the accused disclosed that they had purchased active SIM cards from West Bengal, Assam and Odisha and opened several bank accounts to commit fraud. Police said websites like Patanjali Yog Gram were also created for the same purpose. (Language)
