Know how researchers discovered the tallest tree in the Amazon forest!?
After three years of planning, four expeditions, a dense forest and two weeks of risky travel, a team of scientists has finally reached the Amazon jungle, to locate the tree which is believed to be the world’s tallest. Yes, after reaching under this tree with a height of 25 storeys, scientists collected its leaves, soil and other samples. After investigation, it will be known how old this tree is. According to an estimate, the age of this tree has been estimated to be around 400 to 600 years.
Scientists are surprised about the presence of such a large tree in this area. They are also trying to find out how much carbon the tree stores. This huge tree is in the nature reserve of the Iratapur River in northern Brazil. The height of this tree named Angelium Vermelo is 290 feet and the circumference is 32 feet. It is the largest tree ever found in the Amazon forest. Researchers first spotted the tree in 2019 from a satellite as part of the 3D mapping project.
Scientists believe that about half of this huge tree in this area is carbon absorbed from the atmosphere, which helps in preventing climate change. Despite this, the existence of this tree is in danger. Erosion in the Amazon forests is increasing at an alarming rate. In the past three years, there has been a 75 percent increase in the deforestation of the Amazon forest in Brazil.
