Some other citizens were also freed

The Myvadi region in southeastern Myanmar’s Kayin province, bordering Thailand, is not entirely controlled by the Myanmar government, and some ethnic armed groups control the area. “A few more Indian nationals have been freed from their fake employers and are in the custody of the authorities there for illegal entry into Myanmar,” Bagchi said. He said that legal formalities have been started to bring them back home at the earliest.

Bagchi said, the details of the agent allegedly involved in this racket have been shared with the concerned authorities in various states of India for appropriate action. There have also been examples of similar job rackets in Laos and Cambodia, he said. Our embassies in Vientiane, Phnom Penh and Bangkok are helping to bring back people from there. The Indian mission had issued an advisory on July 5, warning against anti-social elements offering jobs.

After the initial recruitment, Indian workers are illegally taken to Myanmar without proper documents, leaving them trapped there, the mission said. In view of the above, Indian citizens are requested to take due diligence and verify the antecedents of the recruiting agent, the advisory issued by the mission said. It is advisable to have all the necessary information (job description, company details, location, employment contract etc.) available before accepting any employment offer.
