Delhi Police Commissioner’s order on action against illegal encroachment
New Delhi. Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora issued a circular citing his responsibility towards illegal encroachment and said it is a challenge for municipal bodies and authorities across the city. The commissioner directed the officers to pay attention to illegal encroachment in their respective areas. In the circular issued on Saturday, it has been said that under section 475 of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi Act (duties of the police), it is the responsibility of the police to inform the concerned municipal officer regarding illegal private construction in a proper manner under the standing order. . The circular said, after informing the concerned civic body officer, directions from the municipal authority under section 344(2) of the Act to stop the illegal construction, remove the workers from the site and confiscate the construction material, Only then can the police intervene further.
He said, Delhi Police can also take appropriate action after getting information about any illegal activity going on on government land or if any illegal construction is taking place in front of them. The Commissioner said that on several occasions complaints have been received from all the districts and its areas regarding misconduct which tarnishes the image of the police force. The circular said that people’s trust in the law is the key to our success and there can be no compromise in this regard. In markets, residential colonies and elsewhere, the police should clearly know their responsibility and there will be no compromise. It will be the responsibility of all senior officers to implement and communicate this circular to all police personnel and if there is any lapse, they will be held accountable. (IANS)
