Bihar: Lakhs of people took a dip in the Ganges on Kartik Purnima, temples crowded
Patna On the occasion of Kartik Purnima, thousands of devotees took a holy dip in the Ganges at various places including the capital Patna on Tuesday. On this occasion, there is an influx of worshipers in the temples too. It is believed that taking a bath in the Ganges river on the day of Kartik Purnima washes away all the sins of life and increases health and prosperity. There is a crowd of devotees since morning at all the ghats including Kangan Ghat, NIT Ghat, Danapur Ghat, Rani Ghat of Ganga river in Patna. At many ghats, devotees had reached at night only.
Apart from Patna, people from other areas of the state are also taking a dip and donating at these ghats. According to Pandit Sudhir Mishra, bath donation has special significance on the day of Kartik Poornima. Whatever is donated on this day is rewarded manifold. Donation of food, money and clothes has special significance on this day.
On the occasion of Kartik Purnima, lakhs of people are also gathered for bath at the Ganga-Gandak Sangam, Konhara Ghat, near Harihar area, Sonpur Mela area. People are praying for salvation by taking a dip in the confluence. During this, there was an influx of devotees in the Hariharnath temple. Due to the beginning of the Sutak before the lunar eclipse, people reached the temple early in the morning. The temple door was closed after about eight o’clock in the morning.
Apart from Ganga, people are also praying for health and prosperity by taking bath on the ghats of other rivers including Kosi, Gandak in other areas of the state. Tight security arrangements have also been made on the banks of the Ganges of Patna on the occasion of Kartik Purnima. Additional police force and magistrates have been deputed at Ganga Ghats from Sunday night. Here, there was an increase in the number of worshipers in temples as compared to other days. People take bath in the morning and gather in the temples to offer prayers. (IANS)
