Elements of Indian culture and modern education should be included in the education system: Dr. Subhash

New Delhi. Union Minister of State for Education Dr. Subhash Sarkar said on Wednesday that in the knowledge-centered 21st century, such an education system is necessary in the country, which is deeply connected to Indian culture and which also includes elements of modern education.

The Minister said that the National Education Policy fully meets this and the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is making a commendable contribution towards providing education to all including adult education. Addressing the 33rd Foundation Day function of National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), he said that 21st century is the century of knowledge and the new National Education Policy is an important foundation towards providing education to all.

He said that the National Education Policy has given special emphasis on the three pillars of multilingual, multidisciplinary and holistic education so that today’s children can be nurtured, inspired and developed. Dr. Sarkar said that this is also important because today children who are in the age group of 5-15 years will become young when India celebrates 100 years of its independence.

He said that NIOS has effectively fulfilled its responsibilities in the field of education which include providing certification to 7 crore students in basic literacy assessment, introducing innovations in education etc. The Minister of State for Education said that in the 21st century, such an education system is necessary in the country, which is deeply connected with the Indian culture and which includes elements of modern education based on new developments.

He said that NIOS has played an important role in this direction. The Institute has started an e-library platform, a virtual platform for learners, teachers and readers. Along with this, material has been made available for the students on Diksha platform as well.
