Before leaving for Indonesia’s capital Bali to attend the G20 summit, the Prime Minister said in a statement that he would also underline India’s achievements and “unshakeable commitment” in finding collective solutions to global challenges.

Modi is going to Indonesia on a three-day visit to attend the summit. He is expected to discuss global challenges including the impact of the Ukraine conflict, particularly in the areas of food and energy security.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and French President Emmanuel Macron will also attend the summit.

Prime Minister Modi said, during the Bali summit, I will have extensive discussions with the leaders of G20 member countries on key issues of global concern such as global development, food and energy security, environment, health and digital transformation. During the talks at the summit, I will underline India’s achievements and unwavering commitment in finding collective solutions to global challenges, said Prime Minister Modi.

The G20 is an influential organization of global economic cooperation. It represents about 85 percent of global GDP, more than 75 percent of global trade and about two-thirds of the world’s population. Indonesia is the current chair of the G20. India will formally assume the presidency of the G20 from December 1.

On India taking over the G20 presidency next month, the Prime Minister said, “In the closing ceremony of the Bali summit, Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo will hand over the G20 presidency to India, which will be an important moment for our country.” He said, India will formally assume the presidency of the G20 from December 1, 2022. I will personally send invitations to all the members to attend the summit next year.

Prime Minister Modi said that India’s G20 presidency will be based on the theme ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ or ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’. The prime minister said he looked forward to addressing members of the Indian community in Bali at a reception on Tuesday. He said, on the sidelines of the G20 summit, I will meet leaders of several member countries and review the progress of India’s bilateral relations with them.

The G-20 or Group of 20 countries is an intergovernmental forum of the world’s major developed and developing economies. This includes Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union (EU). The Prime Minister has arrived to attend the summit at the invitation of the President of Indonesia. The summit will be held on November 15-16.
