Violent attack on Shubham of Agra who went to study in Australia, 11 attacks on body including jaw and stomach, condition critical

At this time Indians living abroad (especially students) are not looking safe. Incidents of attacks on Indian people including Indian students are coming to the fore every day, which is very worrying. On 6 October this month, a 28-year-old Indian student from Agra’s Kiravali town, who had gone to Australia for studies, was subjected to multiple blows to the face, chest and abdomen in a racial attack. After which he was shifted for treatment and it was found that his condition was serious. Shubham Garg, who is pursuing his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New South Wales, was walking on the Pacific Highway while returning home at around 10.30 pm. 11 blows were made on many parts of the body including Shubham’s jaw, stomach.

Let us tell you that in this case, a 27-year-old Daniel Norwood was arrested on the spot and taken to Chatswood Police Station. where he was charged with attempted murder. When Norwood appeared in Hornsby Local Court, he was refused bail. As reported by The Australia Today, the accused will remain in custody till his next court appearance.

Norwood asks for money and phone from Shubham

According to the information, the first accused in this case, Norwood, threatened Shubham Garg, who was walking on the Pacific Highway, demanding cash and phone. Australia Today quoted local media reports as saying that Garg refused to give up and the attacker fled. He was hit several times in the stomach before fleeing. The attack took place on 6 October at 10 pm Sydney time.

The family made serious allegations

Garg’s family termed the attack on their son as an act of ‘racism’. According to local media reports, her parents said that they had been trying to get an Australian visa for a week. But he did not get any success. The family said, “Shubham’s condition remains critical. Today, a panel of doctors in Australia has performed the third operation of Shubham. Due to the knife, there was a deep wound in his intestines. Due to this, 4 inches of his intestines had to be removed. We are constantly talking to the doctors.

Victim’s sister sought help

Shubham’s sister Kavya Garg tweeted on October 12, “My brother Shubham Garg, 28, from Uttar Pradesh was brutally attacked 11 times with a knife in Sydney, Australia and his condition is critical. We are in this matter and family members. Want your immediate help from us. Seeking emergency visa.”

Getting help from superiors

District Magistrate Navneet Chahal said that the Government of India and Australia is providing assistance to the family members. MP Rajkumar Chahar has assured him of all possible help by talking to the Ministry of External Affairs and the embassy. Called to Delhi to get visa immediately. The family has appealed to the government for help in bringing him home. A spokesman for the Australian High Commission says that all assistance is being provided to the student. The High Commission is also helping in the process of visa for the family members of the student.

Shubham went to Australia just a month ago

Shubham Garg did his studies till Intermediate from Lord Krishna Public School in the town. After this, from the year 2012 to 2016, he did B.Tech (Mechanical) from Ajay Kumar Garg College, Ghaziabad. After this he did his MS from IIT Madras. Meanwhile, Shubham applied for a PhD at the University of New South Wales Sydney College in Australia. He was selected on scholarship basis. Shubham reached Sydney on 1st September.
