Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has dismissed the opposition’s allegations that the BJP is using the Uniform Civil Code issue as a tool to polarize voters ahead of the elections. does as. Addressing the HT Leadership Summit, Dhami said that a five-member committee headed by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai is working on the draft which will be ready soon. “We will implement it soon,” he said. He said that the implementation of the civil code is not limited to the elections in the state and we have worked on what we said, after the elections. Referring to Article 44 of the Constitution and certain observations of the Supreme Court, Dhami said the higher judiciary is of the view that states should implement it.
Responding to a question on the alleged rape and murder of a woman working in a resort in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Dhami said it was natural for people to get agitated but all the accused have been nabbed. He said that his government will ensure that such incidents do not happen again. Dhami also denied that important evidence was destroyed when a bulldozer was used to demolish the resort. He said the evidence was preserved and videographed before the structure was demolished. (Language)
