Meaning of Ganguly’s leave

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has been discharged. The all-time great captain of the Indian cricket team, Sourav Ganguly, will no longer be the President of BCCI. In his place, Roger Binny, associated with the Karnataka Cricket Board, will be made the president. Keep in mind that assembly elections are going to be held in Karnataka next year. Congress party leader Rajeev Shukla will become the Vice President of BCCI. Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah will continue as the secretary. Union Minister Anurag Thakur’s brother Arun Dhumal will be replaced by Mumbai BJP president and MLA Ashish Shelar as treasurer and Debabrata Saikia, a close aide of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, will be joint secretary. So, in BCCI, three people will be associated with BJP and one from Congress, while President Roger Binny will be associated with cricket.

The most surprising case in this whole process is the farewell of Sourav Ganguly. Recently, on the appeal of the BCCI, the Supreme Court had given relaxation in the implementation of the recommendations of the Justice RM Lodha Committee and said that the office-bearers of the BCCI can continue in the post even after two consecutive terms. The BCCI made this appeal to both Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah as Ganguly was an office-bearer in the Cricket Association of Bengal and Shah in the Gujarat Cricket Association and became an office-bearer of the BCCI from there. But now it seems that BCCI’s appeal was only for Jay Shah. Keep in mind that he has been an office bearer of Gujarat or Indian Cricket Board continuously since 2013.

However, it seems that Ganguly’s not joining the BJP has cost him dearly. He was neither the President of BCCI nor the President of ICC. Leaders of Trinamool Congress and Left parties have made it an issue. It is being told that Ganguly was offered to become the chairman of IPL, which he turned down. Everyone knows that after being the President of BCCI, he does not become the President of IPL. There is talk of Arun Dhumal, who has been removed from the post of treasurer, to become the IPL chairman. Whatever happens next but it has been decided that now the face of BCCI will be Jay Shah, first Ganguly was there.
