New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a fractured verdict on petitions challenging the Karnataka High Court’s decision refusing to lift the ban on wearing hijab in educational institutions in Karnataka.
Justice Hemant Gupta dismissed the petitions against the High Court’s decision, while Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia allowed them. While pronouncing the verdict, Justice Gupta said, “There are differences of opinion in this matter.” In view of the fractured judgment, the bench directed that these petitions challenging the High Court’s decision be placed before the Chief Justice for constitution of an appropriate larger bench.
