New Delhi. The Supreme Court will constitute a new bench to hear the petitions of home buyers against the Amrapali Group. These people had booked houses in Amrapali’s projects, but the realty company failed to allot them.
A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice JB Pardiwala was urged by the home buyers’ counsel to constitute a new bench. Till now, the matter related to Amrapali group was being heard by a bench headed by the then Chief Justice U U Lalit. Justice Lalit retired on November 8.
The Chief Justice said, I will constitute a new bench. Advocate ML Lahoti, appearing for the home buyers, raised the matter. He said that there is a need to constitute a new bench to hear the complaints of home buyers.
The apex court had on July 23, 2019 ordered cancellation of the registration of Amrapali Group under the real estate law RERA, taking action against builders who did not make timely allotments. The court had also directed an Enforcement Directorate probe into alleged money laundering by realty companies. The decision brought relief to around 42,000 home buyers of Amrapali Group. (Language)
