Mumbai Trans Harbor Link gets longest orthotropic steel deck

Mumbai Mumbai Trans Harbor Link has achieved a significant milestone with the launch of the longest Orthotropic Steel Deck (OSD). Officials gave this information here on Tuesday. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) teams launched the longest OSD 4S, which is 180 meters long and weighs 2400 metric tons. The first OSD was launched on April 1, 2022 and the second was launched on Monday evening. OSD is a steel deck superstructure, which can bear vehicular loads with greater capacity. It will also improve the load-carrying capacity of the bridge as compared to the concrete superstructure for the same duration.

OSD steel deck superstructures have less weight than concrete or composites. SVR Srinivas, MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner said, “The team is now in sync with our plan towards commissioning the MTHL project by the end of 2023. According to MMRDA, out of 32 OSDs to be built under the MTHL project, the OSD launched on Monday was the 14th and longest. (IANS)
