Seats increased in medical colleges in last eight years, infrastructure improved: Minister Mansukh Mandaviya
New Delhi. Health and Family Welfare Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Friday that compared to 2014, the number of MBBS seats in medical colleges in the country has more than doubled and the number of postgraduate seats has increased by 105 percent.
Responding to a supplementary question by Ganesh Singh in the Lok Sabha, Mandaviya said that the government is working with commitment to provide quality medical facilities and education in the country, which includes establishment of medical colleges, increase in the number of seats and better infrastructure and facilities. making is included. He told that it is our endeavor to provide such medical education in the country so that the youth do not have to go abroad for doing MBBS.
Continuous efforts are being made to ensure that the students of the country get the opportunity to study MBBS in the country itself.
MBBS had 44,000 seats in 2014, which has increased to 96,000 today.

Health and Family Welfare Minister said that it is due to these efforts that compared to the year 2014, double increase in the number of MBBS seats in medical colleges has been recorded today. In the year 2014, there were 44 thousand MBBS seats, which have now increased to 96 thousand, while the number of postgraduate seats has increased from 32 thousand to 64 thousand now. He informed that 157 new medical colleges have been approved under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for setting up new medical colleges by upgrading district/referral hospitals, out of which 94 are already operational.
Mandaviya informed that there is a plan to strengthen the existing State Government/Central Government Medical Colleges by increasing the number of MBBS and PG seats. The Union Minister informed that a total of 75 projects have been approved under the Central Sector Scheme for upgradation of Government Medical Colleges by constructing state-of-the-art blocks.
He informed that 22 AIIMS have been approved under the Central Sector Scheme for establishment of new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Of these, graduate courses have been started in 19.
