Mariyappan Thangavelu won silver and Sharad Kumar won bronze medal in Tokyo Paralympics

Paralympics 2020 High Jump: Indian Para athletes continue their stellar performance in Tokyo Paralympics. Mariyappan Thangavelu won the silver medal in the high jump on Tuesday, while Sharad Kumar won the bronze medal for India. Rio Paralympic gold medalist Thangavelu won the silver medal in the high jump T42 event, while Sharad won the bronze in the same event. With this, India’s medal tally in the Tokyo Paralympics has reached 10.
Mariyappan won the silver medal with an effort of 1.86m, while Sam Grave of America won the gold in his third attempt with a jump of 1.88m. While Sharad won the bronze medal with an effort of 1.83m. Rio 2016 Paralympic bronze medalist Varun Singh Bhati, competing in the event, finished seventh among the nine participants. He failed to jump 1.77 metres.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated both the athletes by tweeting. “Flying higher and higher! Mariyappan Thangavelu is synonymous with consistency and excellence. Congratulations to him on winning the silver medal. India is proud of his success,” the PM tweeted.

India got 10 medals so far
Those players are kept in the T-42 category, who have problems with their feet and there is a difference in leg length. Apart from this, there is a problem in muscle strength and leg movement. In this class, the players compete standing up. Earlier on Tuesday, shooter Sinhraj Adana won a bronze medal in the men’s 10m Air Pistol SF1 event. India has so far won 2 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.
