Jammu: Municipal Corporation made it mandatory for councilors to graduate, proposal passed
Jammu. Jammu Mayor Rajendra Sharma on Wednesday insisted on making graduation mandatory as the minimum qualification for contesting the election of a corporator. The House of the Jammu Municipal Corporation passed the resolution moved by Sharma. Sharma said that the proposal has now been sent to the Jammu and Kashmir administration and is waiting for its implementation.
He said that only after it is approved by the administration and then by the Election Commission of India, the requirement of graduation for councilors will become a law.
Sharma told reporters in Jammu, “We urged the central government to take cognizance of the resolution passed by the JMC House and enact a law to make it mandatory for elected representatives to contest elections only after graduation.” He said that this would probably be the first such step taken by any municipal corporation in the country.
