Case registered under PSA against woman involved in child abduction
Jammu. A case under the Public Safety Act (PSA) has been registered on Wednesday against a woman involved in the kidnapping of a child in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district. Police in Kishtwar cracked the mystery of the recent kidnapping from the district hospital where a burqa-clad woman kidnapped a 6-month-old baby, a statement said. Shabnam Begum, wife of slain terrorist Zahoor Deen, is an accused, against whom a case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, the statement said.
His bail plea was rejected by the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kishtwar. Later the District and Sessions Court granted bail to the accused. The common law against him would not have the desired result of deterring him from engaging in such illegal acts, the statement said. Therefore, common law is not sufficient to prevent further involvement in such offences. A case has been registered against the accused under PSA.
Let us inform here that, PSA is a strict law under which a person can be kept in custody for two years without any judicial intervention. The act was initially implemented against timber smugglers in Jammu and Kashmir. But over time, it has been used against anti-national elements and terrorists against whom the state feels that it is not enough to resort to ordinary laws.
