New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Wednesday deferred the hearing of a five-judge constitution bench on a legislative issue relating to the scope of legislative and executive powers of the Center and the Delhi government over control of services in the national capital.
Justice D.Y. A bench of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli extended the date of hearing on the request of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre. Mehta said he would not be available on November 9 due to foreign travel. The bench then fixed November 24 as the date of further hearing in the matter.
The top court had on September 27 said that a constitution bench headed by Justice Chandrachud would start hearing the matter on a daily basis from November 9. Other members included in the Constitution Bench include Justice M.R. Shah, Justice Krishna Murari, Justice Hima Kohli and Justice P.S. Narasimha included.
Earlier on August 22, the apex court had said that a Constitution Bench headed by Justice Chandrachud was constituted to hear the legal issue relating to the scope of legislative and executive powers of the Central and National Capital Territory Governments over the control of services in Delhi. The apex court had on May 6 transferred the issue of control of services in Delhi to a constitution bench.
