IPL 2022 Retention: The next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has sounded. However, this year there is a mega auction to be held before the IPL. Earlier on Tuesday, the old eight teams released the list of their retained players. Rajasthan Royals have retained Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal for the upcoming season. In such a situation, the question is arising that why Rajasthan did not retain Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer in the team. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara has given the reason behind this.

In a video uploaded on the official Twitter handle of Rajasthan Royals, Kumar Sangakkara first praised Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer, and then revealed the reasoning behind their surprising decision.

Sangakkara said, “It has been extremely difficult. They are the two best players in the world at the moment. Ben Stokes is the best all-rounder. He is an absolute match-winning player and he has done it for Rajasthan Royals as well. As a team man Absolutely great in the lead, great in the leadership role. But we had to consider the number of potential retains. Also the availability of the player and how long he has been available for.”

He further said, “Same thing happened with Jofra Archer. We did everything to find out the nature of the injury, the recovery period. There is no player like Jofra Archer in any format of cricket. Especially in T20 cricket. I know the players themselves understand our reasoning, even if they are disappointed.”
