Ranchi. In Jharkhand, men harassed by their wives have taken the path of agitation by forming a front. Such men, gathered under the banner of Save Indian Family, staged a strike in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Bapu Vatika, Morhabadi Ground, Ranchi. The agitating men say that they are being harassed by illegitimate use of several provisions of the Indian law. They also need the right of protection from injustice from the administration, society and police. According to the agitating men, Section 498 of the Act against Dowry Harassment is being used to harass men as much as it is not in favor of women. Many people have to go to jail because of false complaints and the whole family gets ruined. Instances of misuse of alimony section 125 are also common. People protesting said that our stories are also similar. If any one of us has lost his job because of a false complaint, then someone has to go to court. For example, Sushil Kumar Pandey, associated with the Save Indian Family organization, alleges that his family was destroyed due to the harassment of his wife. His wife did not want to live in the village, while his livelihood was going on because of the village.
If the wife did not listen, a case was made against her under maintenance and dowry harassment. He went to jail. According to Ramgarh resident Bigankant, he had to lose his job due to the false case of 498. Prahlad Prasad, who is leading the dharna, claimed that every year four lakh people are victims of misuse of Section 498. He said that in support of their demands, preparations are on to organize a big conference in Ranchi on November 19. Said that now a large number of people are joining our front. We hope that the government will make necessary amendments in the laws to protect us from injustice. (IANS)
