World: India ranks second among migrant citizens getting green cards in America, Mexico tops the list

The number of Indians who dream of getting a green card in America is very high and every year a large number of Indians go to America to fulfill this dream. A report by the US Department of Immigration (USCIS) confirms this. According to the report, India ranks second in the country getting US citizenship this year, while Mexico tops the list. The United States has granted citizenship to 661,500 people as of June 15, 2022.

M Jaddu, director of US Citizenship and Immigration Services, said India is the second largest country of birth for naturalized US citizens after Mexico in the first quarter of fiscal year 2022. USCIS welcomed 855,000 new citizens in fiscal year 2021. USCIS said it is celebrating Independence Day this year. The department will celebrate Independence Day between July 1-8, welcoming over 6,600 new citizens in over 140 events. According to US Homeland Security, 34% of those who obtained citizenship through “nationalization” in the first quarter of fiscal year 2022 were from Mexico, India, the Philippines, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Of these, 24508 people from Mexico and 12928 people from India have been given citizenship. In addition, 11316 people from the Philippines, 10689 from Cuba and 7086 from the Dominican Republic were granted US citizenship.

However, China is missing from the list of top five countries that have been granted US citizenship this year. Last year, the top five countries on the list included Mexico, India, Cuba, the Philippines and China. A total of 4% of the people in these top five countries were granted citizenship. India ranks first in the world in terms of living abroad. According to a United Nations report, the number of people living outside the country in the year 2020 is 18 million. Most of the people in India live in UAE, USA and Saudi Arabia. The US, on the other hand, is the world’s first choice internationally with 51 million tourists by 2020.
