SC dismisses Rs 75 lakh compensation plea for ads on YouTube, imposes fine

New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition seeking compensation of Rs 75 lakh from Google India for advertisements shown on YouTube and fined the petitioner 25,000 fine has also been imposed. Dismissing the petition, the Supreme Court allowed the petition filed by a resident of Madhya Pradesh ,magnanimous, Told. The petitioner had claimed that he was distracted due to the advertisements and could not clear a competitive examination. YouTube is a video streaming social media platform owned by Google.

Justice Sanjay K. Kaul and Justice A. s. Oka asked the petitioner appearing before the bench,You want compensation because you saw advertisements on the Internet and you say that you could not clear the exam due to distractions,

the bench said,This is the most magnanimous of the petitions filed under Article 32 of the Constitution., They said,Such petitions are a waste of judicial time., The petitioner also sought to ban nudity on the social media platform. The bench noted that the petitioner has claimed that he was preparing for the exam and has subscribed to YouTube, Where he allegedly saw advertisements containing obscene material. the bench said,If you don’t like the ad, Don’t see him.,

He said,Why they chose to view the ad at their discretion, Initially, the bench dismissed the petition and imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on the petitioner. Later, on the request of the petitioner, the court pardoned him and remitted the fine. The petitioner also stated that he is unemployed. The bench said that it cannot simply come to the court and file such a petition just for publicity. The bench said while reducing the amount of fine from one lakh rupees,it 25,000 to Rs.
