Punjab Kings head coach Anil Kumble told that the franchise wanted to retain KL Rahul, but Rahul himself has decided to part ways with Punjab Kings. Kumble further told that Punjab Kings tried hard to persuade Rahul, but he no longer wanted to stay with the team.

Anil Kumble said, “We wanted KL Rahul to continue with Punjab Kings. That’s why we gave him the captaincy two years ago. We wanted him to remain a part of the core group of Punjab Kings, but Rahul wanted to go for the auction. We respect his decision.”
