Where are we from!

It has been more than 60 years since dowry was outlawed in India. Harassing or demanding money for dowry is an offense under the law. Yet according to the National Crime Records Bureau, around 7,000 murders in 2020 were due to dowry.

It is a natural feeling to be proud of one’s country and society. But while taking pride it is also necessary that we should not forget our responsibility to make our society proud. There are many such things in every society, which are not a matter of pride, but of shame. Indian society is also not free from this. Pay attention to this incident. In Rajasthan, three sisters were married in the same family, where they were constantly beaten up. Tired of daily harassment, the three sisters committed suicide in the past. The bodies of Kalu, Kamlesh, and Mamta Meena and their children are found in a well. A message left before his death was also found, in which he blamed his in-laws for his death.

The family members of the three told that the in-laws had demanded more money in dowry, which their father could not fulfill. Because of this, the husbands of the three and the rest of the in-laws used to violence against them continuously. A relative of the deceased said that after the disappearance of the three, a WhatsApp message was received from one of them, which read – “We do not want to die but death is better than their torture.” Obviously, the life of the three women had become like hell. Her husbands refused to teach her further. He used to harass them for money. It is to be noted here that dowry has been outlawed in India for more than 60 years. Harassing or demanding money for dowry is an offense under the law. Yet according to the National Crime Records Bureau, around 7,000 murders in 2020 were due to dowry. So all this is part of the same society of which we belong. Now we have to decide for ourselves how much to be proud and how much to be ashamed of. You also have to ask yourself how long will all this go on.
