when the truth becomes the victim

The tension is so high as to when the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Beashley will release her Xinjiang report, So far only speculations are being made about this. There is less than a week left for Beashley’s four-year term to end.

The recent Xinjiang report of the United Nations Human Rights Commission is a recent example of how truth becomes a battle of big powers. Both Western countries and China are eagerly waiting for this report. But the tussle about it is so much that when the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Beashley will release it, so far there is only speculation about it. There is less than a week left for Beashley’s four-year term to end. He himself says that it is still not clear when the report will be published. Representatives of the US and many other Western countries have described China’s treatment of the Uighur community in Xinjiang as “genocide”. China has been denying this allegation. What he said at a press conference after Michelle Beashley’s visit to Xinjiang was seen as a confirmation of China’s claim. Then the pressure of the West increased on them.

As a result, there is uncertainty about his report. Western countries allege that at least one million people have been imprisoned in “re-education camps” in the province. They are mostly Uighur Muslims. They have to face many kinds of exploitation. This ranges from forced sterilization of women to forced labor. But Beashley made no mention of these allegations in his speech on September 18 after his visit. Rather, he publicly praised the achievements made in China in the direction of human development. In May this year, she went to Xinjiang for six days. He then said he asked to refrain from taking “arbitrary and discretionary measures” in Xinjiang. This appeal was from both the sides. But both the sides want their favorable report. The result of its tussle is the report hanging in the balance for the time being.
