Captain Amarinder said, “They think I am of retirement age, while I do not think so.”
Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh spoke about his plans for his new party, as well as fulfilling the promises made in the 2017 manifesto, during the Idea Exchange program of The Indian Express. Apart from this, once again he also expressed his concerns regarding the security of Punjab. At the same time, during this program, Captain Amarinder Singh revealed that Sonia Gandhi had earlier turned down his offer of resignation but called after a few days and said that I should resign.
During the Idea Exchange program of Indian Express, Amarinder Singh was asked, ‘When you resigned from the post of CM of Punjab and indicated that you will form a new party by breaking away from Congress, did Sonia Gandhi talk to you, or Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka approached you?’ Responding to this, Amarinder Singh said, “Sonia Gandhi spoke to me three or four weeks before my resignation was offered. I told him that I cannot take this responsibility anymore. He asked me why? To this I said because Navjot Singh Sidhu and I are walking separately. On my saying this, Sonia Gandhi asked me not to resign.
Amarinder Singh further said, “One morning, she (Sonia Gandhi) called me and asked me to resign. To this I said that I had offered you my resignation, in response to which he only said I am sorry.
Captain Amarinder said, “They think I am of retirement age, whereas I do not think so. I still have a lot left in me, I will fight and fight for my state Punjab. I will also fight against anti-national elements.
Referring to the sending of ammunition to India with the intention of promoting cross-border terrorism and creating unrest in the country, the former Punjab CM said, “Look at the weapons that are coming, drones, bombs… What is? What is the intention of Pakistan?’ After Operation Blue Star and terrorist activities, 35,000 Punjabis lost their lives. I don’t want any other Punjabi to die.
