The Reserve Bank has issued a circular in which banks have been advised to contact the owners of these lying dormant accounts or get such accounts revived by locating the nominee.

what is bank rule
Such accounts in which no transaction has taken place for 2 years are considered as dormant accounts and money can be deposited in these but cannot be withdrawn. Such amount is called unclaimed fund and the Finance Minister said in Rajya Sabha yesterday that it will be used as it was earlier. That is, this amount will go to the Depositor Education and Awareness Fund of RBI. If someone wants his money back from banks, then this amount will be returned to him along with interest.
