Welcome to Chandigarh airport to be named after Bhagat Singh

Saharanpur. Sardar Kiranjit Singh Sandhu, nephew of Amar Shaheed Bhagat Singh, welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement to name the Chandigarh interstate airport after Shaheed Bhagat Singh. . He said that the fulfillment of this year-old demand would make the entire country and especially the youth of Punjab very happy and excited.

The nephew of Bhagat Singh, who lives in Saharanpur, said that Prime Minister Modi made this announcement on All India Radio in the program ‘Mann Ki Baat’. He told that Bhagat Singh Jayanti is celebrated on 28 September. Shaheed Bhagat Singh was born to Sardar Kishan Singh Sandhu and Mata Vidyavati Kaur in Khatkadkala village in District Nav Shahar, Punjab. The name of the new city is now ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar’. Bhagat Singh, who was awarded Shahide Azam, was hanged by the British government on 23 March 1931.

Sardar Kiranjit Singh Sandhu said that in the year 2007, when the birth centenary of Sardar Bhagat Singh was celebrated, there was a demand to name the Chandigarh airport after Shaheed Bhagat Singh. The then Chief Minister of Punjab Parkash Singh Badal and the then Chief Minister of Haryana Bhupinder Singh Hooda had passed resolutions to this effect from the Legislative Assemblies and sent them to the Central Government.
