Then 1984 Memories

‘Punjab 1984’ came eight years back in 2014, which also won the National Award for Best Regional Film. The Punjabi film was based on the 1984 terrorism in Punjab and the turmoil in the lives of the common people of the state due to it. A young man is lost and his mother is looking for him. When he is found, he is labeled as a terrorist. The film is available on many OTT platforms. It featured Diljit Dosanjh in the role of son who is also in the lead role in ‘Jogi’ which released on Netflix two days ago which shows the tragedy of 1984 riots in Delhi.

Diljit Dosanjh is the most talked about actor of Punjabi films and he has become an identity in Hindi i.e. Bollywood films as well. They say that ‘Punjab 1984’ was based on the situation in Punjab at that time, whereas ‘Jogi’ shows the events of Delhi of those days. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, director of ‘Gunday’, ‘Sultan’, ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ and web series ‘Tandav’, ‘Jogi’ is the story of three friends who have to face many problems amid the violence that erupted after the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Till the day he had to fight with the situation to save his life. Diljit believes that what happened in Delhi at that time should not be called a riot, because people from both sides fight in the riots, whereas it was one-sided violence. Even today, thousands of Sikh families have not been able to forget the loss and the horror they faced then. They have the same stories from 1984 as we have been hearing about Partition.
