Vivek Tankha files nomination papers as Congress candidate

Bhopal, Eminent advocate of the country and senior Congress leader Vivek Tankha filed his nomination papers as a party candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections from Madhya Pradesh (MP) here today. Tankha presented the nomination papers in front of the Principal Secretary and Returning Officer of the Assembly, AP Singh, after reaching the election office set up for the Rajya Sabha elections in the assembly premises here. State Congress President Kamal Nath, Leader of Opposition Dr Govind Singh, former State Congress President Kantilal Bhuria and JP Dhanopia were also present on this occasion. Tankha is currently also a Rajya Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh and his term ends on June 29.

The process is going on for biennial elections to three seats of Rajya Sabha from the state. The last date for filing nomination papers is May 31. According to the number of MLAs in the assembly, two seats are decided to go to the account of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and one Congress. In this way, it is believed that Tankha will go to the Rajya Sabha for the second consecutive time.

On the other hand, BJP has announced the name of Ms. Kavita Patidar, representing Other Backward Classes (OBC) as a candidate yesterday. Another candidate will be announced soon. The BJP candidate has not yet filed his nomination papers.
