Urban body elections: 3422 candidates in the fray, voting on September 27

Bhopal. 3422 candidates are in the fray after the withdrawal of nominations for the general elections being held in 46 urban bodies in eighteen districts of Madhya Pradesh. A total of 25 councilors have been elected unopposed. Out of these, 21 councilors have been elected unopposed in the urban body Khurai and one each in Bamhanibanjar, Baihar, Maheshwar and Thandla.

Secretary State Election Commission Rakesh Singh has informed that 4760 nomination papers were presented in 46 urban bodies. After review, 227 nomination papers were canceled. A total of 1244 nomination papers were withdrawn by the candidates. Now 3422 candidates are in the fray. Voting will be held on September 27 from 7 am to 5 pm. The counting of votes will take place on 30 September at 9 am.
Singh has told that the total number of wards is 814, total polling stations are 1212 and total voters are 8 lakh 42 thousand 515. Out of the total electors there are 4 Lakh 25 Thousand 370 Men, 4 Lakh 17 Thousand 79 Women and 66 Other Voters.
