UAE cricketer banned for 14 years in match-fixing case

Melbourne. A domestic cricketer from United Arab Emirates (UAE) was awarded match fixing in an international series in April 2019 and T20 franchise tournament in Canada the same year. He has been banned from every activity of cricket for 14 years after being found guilty of seven charges related to The International Cricket Council (ICC) issued a statement on Wednesday announcing that Mehrdeep Chhawkar has been banned after hearing in the ICC Anti-Corruption Tribunal.

Earlier, two players of the Emirates national team were banned. He had admitted to violating the Anti-Corruption Code in respect of the offer related to Chhavkar. Chhavkar is a wicket-keeper batsman who has played in the top league in the UAE. He participated in the Under-19 Asian Club Tournament in 2012. Chhavkar has denied all the allegations. (Language)
