Big relief to Daler Mehndi, ban on punishment

Chandigarh, Famous Punjabi and Hindi singer Daler Mehndi got a big relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday. The High Court has stayed the two-year sentence awarded by the trial court of Patiala in the case of human trafficking. Daleg Mehndi was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment in this case of 2003 by a court in Patiala, after which he had to go to jail.

The appeal filed by Daler Mehndi in the High Court against the sentence awarded by the lower court has been accepted. Daler Mehndi was sentenced to two years in prison by a Patiala court on 16 March 2018. After this, Daler Mehndi challenged the appeal by filing an appeal before the Additional Sessions Judge, Patiala. The hearing on this petition took nearly four years. Even from there he did not get relief.

After this, Daler Mehndi challenged it by filing a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He had demanded from the High Court that his sentence should be stayed till the appeal against the sentence is pending. After this, the High Court had issued a notice to the state government and sought its response. After the reply received from the state government, the matter was heard on Thursday and the High Court ordered a stay on the sentence.
