Tokyo Paralympics 2020: The Para Olympic Games are going to start in Tokyo from today. Today the opening ceremony of these games has been organized here. This opening ceremony will start at 4.30 pm according to Indian time. In these games, which will run till September 5, 54 para-athletes will participate in 9 different sports events from India. India’s 11-member team will be involved in the opening ceremony. These include five para athletes and 6 officers. Para high jumper Mariyappan Thangavelu will be the flag bearer of the Indian team in the opening ceremony.

There is no limit on the number of players in the opening ceremony. However, so far only seven Indian para athletes have completed their quarantine period by reaching Tokyo. These seven also include two table tennis players Sonal Patel and Bhavina Patel, who have to play their match tomorrow. Therefore, both of them will not participate in the opening ceremony. The third team of Indian players has arrived here on Monday and are currently in Quarantine.

Gursharan, India’s head of mission and general secretary of the Paralympic Committee of India, said, “Only six officials have been approved for the opening ceremony. The same rule was applicable in the Tokyo Olympics. However, there is no limit for the players to participate in it. Seven K players have completed their quarantine period. However, only five of them will attend the opening ceremony. Two table tennis players have to play their matches tomorrow, so they will not take part in the opening ceremony.

Mariyappan Thangavelu will be the flag bearer of the Indian team

Para high jumper Mariyappan Thangavelu will be the flag bearer of the Indian team in the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Paralympics. Let us inform that Thangavelu won the gold medal in the T-42 category of high jump at the Rio Paralympics. India’s largest contingent so far is going to participate in the Paralympic Games. Discus throw athlete Vinod Kumar, javelin throw athlete Tekchand, powerlifter Jaideep and Sakina Khatoon will be present along with Thangavelu in the opening ceremony.

The 6 officials who will attend the opening ceremony are Mission Chief Gursharan, Deputy Mission Chief Arhaan Bagati, Kovid-19 Chief Communications Officer VK Dabbas and Mariyappan’s coach and Para Athletics chief Satyanarayana. India’s highest number of 54 players in Paralympic history will take part in the Tokyo Games and the country is expected to win the most medals this time.
