Russia has held referendums in four regions of Ukraine and now next week it will merge those four regions into Russia. He will make them part of Russia. These four regions are Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhya! Millions of Ukrainians have fled from these four regions to other European countries. These four regions together comprise 15 percent of Ukraine’s land. Most of the people of Russian descent live in these areas.
Ukraine has been a province of Soviet Russia for several decades. Even before this, there has been closeness between the two countries for centuries. Ukrainians continued to settle in Russia and Russian people in Ukraine, but after the breakup of the Soviet Union, that is, after the separation of Ukraine, the differences between Russian and Ukrainian people increased. The people of Russian origin of the above four areas have also been running small movements to meet in Russia, but Russia did not pay any special attention to them.
Now that the NATO countries have also started shelling Ukraine, that is why Russian leader Vladimir Putin has waged a war against Ukraine. He has announced to merge these four regions into Russia by gimmicking a five-day referendum. In this referendum, 87 to 99 percent of the people have voted in favor of merger with Russia. Ukrainian leaders have said the referendum is pure hypocrisy.
Russian soldiers went from door to door and forced people to vote in boxes. Don’t know whether the votes have been counted properly or not? Or have the results been announced before counting? This objection of Ukraine has been rejected by Russian leaders as baseless, but the real question is whether such a referendum is justified and practical?
Russia did not directly capture and get a plebiscite in its place, it is a better thing, but if it is accepted right then many countries of today’s world will be broken into pieces. If the heretics and foreigners of neighboring countries come in lakhs and crores and settle in any country, can they be entitled to make their own country or meet in their native country?
If this happens, then many countries like Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Myanmar will start breaking up because many districts and provinces of these countries have abundance of people from neighboring countries. Not only in South Asia, but in almost all the countries of the world, this venture can present a crisis. It can also lead to mass uprisings and international wars.
