Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann emphasized that while the Punjab government has its own funds, NRI support can be added to it through appropriate legal channels. Mann said that there are many Punjabis spread all over the world. Vancouver is Mini Punjab in Canada. Toronto, California, Sydney and Auckland are all Punjab in their own right. All the Punjabis living there are ready to give their lives for their motherland. We will ensure their participation in development. This will be done through legal means as per RBI norms. This will also make those people happy that they have done something for their village. Mann had told that he also has the budget to improve the schools.

NRI community support

CM Bhagwant Mann also held a meeting with the Indian expatriates on Monday. Experts say that if the government really takes the support of the NRI community to improve the state’s schools and hospitals, it will have to work out some modus operandi and shape up a campaign. The NRI community has contributed in various ways in the past as well. A few years ago the Punjab government encouraged the NRI community to help improve the state’s schools. Donations were also made by many wealthy businessmen, which among other things were used to make schools smart with the latest gadgets.

100 crore contribution

Overseas Indians have been making major contributions especially in the field of higher education. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur got a major boost when one of its alumnus Rakesh Gangwal decided to contribute Rs 100 crore towards the development of a school of medical sciences in the campus of the institute. Director of IIT Kanpur, Abhay Karandikar had claimed that this is the largest donation ever made by an individual to an educational institution.
