The Opening and Closing Date of Kedarnath Temple 2021 is announced

The opening of Kedarnath Temple depends on auspicious day of Akshay Tritya and declared on the Maha Shiva Ratri. The date of opening of Kedarnath Temple is always decided by priests in Ukhimath’s Omkareshwar Temple after calculation of Panchang. According to the calculations of the priests 2021, the doors of the holy temple Kedarnath will be opened on sharp 17 May 2021 in the morning with special Pooja in the temple. Opening Date of Kedarnath Dhamhas been declared by the priests on Mahashivratri that is on 11 Mar 2021.

Kedarnath Temple will be open on 17 May, 2021 at 05:00 AM and Kedarnath Temple will be closed on 06 Nov, 2021 (Bhai Dooj) for 2021 Char Dham Yatra
Kedarnath Temple has a long ceremonial puja at the time of opening of Kedarnath Temple. Main Pujari Rawal of Kedarnath Temple first takes blessing and view of lingam after opening of Kedarnath temple.

Kedarnath Dham opening ceremony witness thousands of pilgrims. Kedarnath Temple Kapaat opening day is one of the auspicious moment for many pilgrims visiting Kedarnath from all round the globe. Before opening the gates of Kedarnath Temple long hours worship is done by Rawal and Pujaris of Shri Kedarnath Dham. Pilgrims could take darshan only after first opening Puja at Kedarnath Temple which is done by priests.

Closing ceremony of Kedarnath Dham is also celebrated grand with Garhwal Bands taking Baba Kedar Doli to Winter Abode of Kedarnath i.e Omkareshwar Temple, Ukhimath. Thousands of pilgrims take part in that.

Kedarnath in Winters
During Winters starting from the month of November, there is heavy snowfall seen in Kedarnath and all the routes to temple are closed. The temple is also closed for 6 months. The holy statue of Lord Shiva from Kedarnath Temple is shifted from Garhwal (Kedarkhand) to Ukhimath, Uttarakhand and is reinstated at Kedarnath in the first week of May. It is at this time, that the doors of the temple are thrown open to pilgrims, who gather from various parts of India, for a holy pilgrimage. The temple closes on the week of Kartik every year, on the day of Bhai Dooj (October-November) and reopens after Akshay Tritya (April-May) every year. During its closure the temple is submerged in snow and worship is performed at Ukhimath.
