The new CM of Maharashtra gave a gift to the public by reducing VAT on petrol, diesel.

Mumbai | Maharashtra Petrol/Diesel : The new Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde has tried to give great relief to the people in this era of inflation. In a big announcement, he has announced a reduction in Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 3 per liter respectively in the state. Shinde told reporters after a cabinet meeting at the Secretariat Ministry on Thursday that the decision would cost the exchequer Rs 6,000 crore, but the common people would benefit. CM Shinde said that the government will ensure that the burden of Rs 6,000 crore on the exchequer does not affect the development works.

Maharashtra Petrol/Diesel : Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who was present on the occasion along with Shinde, said that the Shiv Sena and BJP governments have taken this decision for the betterment of the people. The Maharashtra government has also changed the decision of the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government to stop direct election of village sarpanches and city council/nagar panchayat presidents. Earlier, the Fadnavis-led state government, which was in power from 2014 to 2019, allowed the election of sarpanches and city council presidents, which was scrapped by the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government in 2020.

Maharashtra Petrol/Diesel : Fadnavis said that the Shinde government will also restore the pension of democracy fighters who were jailed for protesting against the Emergency from 1975 to 1977. In 2018, the Fadnavis government had announced a pension of Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 for such people who were stopped by the MVA in 2020. Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis said on Thursday that 3,600 people would now get pension. Apart from this, 800 more applications will be approved on the basis of merit. Fadnavis further said that the Chief Minister has given all the approvals for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project.
